Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

The expected behaviour for students at Greystanes Public School is in line with the department's Behaviour Code for Students. The school's latest Anti-Bullying Plan is attached.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

For more information about compulsory school attendance, visit:

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

At Greystanes Public School we have five core values, respect, responsibility, cooperation, honesty and pride that underpin everything we do in the classroom, playground, community and on the sporting field.

Each year students are explicitly taught our core values and how they apply to life at school and life in general. Students also are taught strategies and information about anti-bullying and anti-racism.

Our awards systems across the school are tied to our core values.

Students have the opportunity to receive 'caught you being good' tickets in areas across the school for displaying our core values and go into a prize draw at Kindergarten to Year 2 and Year 3 to Year 6 assemblies.

Students displaying core values in class have the opportunity to earn green cards which then cumulate to bronze, silver, gold and principal's awards.
